Mercaz Norma

Combined advantages of hospital and home

The Day Rehabilitation Unit provides medical and rehabilitative care similar to that given under full hospitalization. The difference is that when the therapeutic sessions end, the patient goes home. This enables  patients to receive the required treatments, while at the same time maintaining maximum independence and a daily life that is as close to normal as possible.

Intake Process

A patient admitted to Mercaz Norma is evaluated by specialists from each discipline. Within a week, the staff holds a meeting to process the data and build a treatment program based on precise long-term and short-term functional goals (prognosis). The team convenes regularly to evaluate progress according to the defined goals and set new targets.

Main Activities

The unit treats people suffering from various degrees of dependence and dysfunction, resulting from a wide range of causes: CVA, spinal injury, multiple injuries following car crashes or work-related accidents, war and terror injuries, illness influencing the central and/or peripheral nervous systems, complex chronic pain syndrome, complex orthopedic problems, etc. The unit provides both diagnosis and rehabilitative treatment.

Just like the hospital’s rehabilitation wards, the Day Rehabilitation Center implements a multidisciplinary approach. The process, guided by a doctor specializing in rehabilitation, involves nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech therapists, dieticians, rehabilitation psychologists and neuro-psychologists.

Each discipline has its own purpose

Nursing care-- Includes keeping track of background illnesses, instruction, bandaging and other treatments.

Physiotherapy--For improving daily functioning and mobility by increasing endurance, range of movement, coordination and use of mechanical and electrical devices.

Occupational Therapy-- Building skills for everyday functions at home and at work, recreation, perception and thinking processes and upper limb functions.

Psychology & Neuro-psychology – Consultation, therapy, support and guidance.

Social Work – Support throughout the day rehabilitation process, consultation and referral to community services.

Speech Therapy -- For treating language and speech difficulties and rehabilitating the swallowing mechanism.
