Reuth’s Sheltered Housing – a safe place to live

Historically, Reuth’s sheltered housing was the organization’s first project, and the initial basis for its establishment. When first opened, the sheltered housing complex provided a solution for elderly immigrants from Europe, who came to Palestine under the British Mandate during and after WWII. Over the years, thousands of people have found a home and a roof over their heads in Reuth’s three sheltered housing sites in Tel Aviv. Today Beit Bracha and Beit Achva target independent, low-income senior citizens, who are able to care for themselves and lead a productive, self-reliant life within the framework of a multi-unit building complex that is an integral part of the community.

Today, the two houses combined are home to 230 residents from 35 different countries around the globe. Half of them are survivors of the Holocaust. Many have experienced the traumas of immigration at an advanced age, and the disintegration of their family units. In the sheltered housing facilities, tenants pay nominal rent for comfortable, aesthetic living conditions, a rich social and cultural life, a profound sense of belonging, and the support of a dedicated staff that knows their world and understands the needs of each and every resident.
