Reuth Medical Center
The Reuth Medical Center for chronic care and rehabilitation is the largest hospital of its kind in Tel Aviv, with 310 beds, a day rehabilitation center and outpatient clinics. The Reuth Medical Center was founded in 1961, when Reuth’s nursing home moved from the center of Tel Aviv (290 Dizengoff St.) to the hospital’s present location in Yad Eliyahu.
The Reuth Medical Center provides medical care, rehabilitation (orthopedic, neurological, geriatric and functional) plus nursing care to chronic patients, including young people, children and infants suffering from chronic illnesses or birth defects. Rehabilitation may be short or long-term, as needed. Nursing care and intensive nursing care includes treatment of wounds, dialysis and special feeding procedures. Intensive care for patients who are comatose or on life support includes respiratory rehabilitation and weaning from life support.
The center accepts patients referred by all Health Care Funds, the Health and Defense Ministries, the IDF and insurance companies, as well as privately funded patients. Patients include, among others, accident and terror victims.
Patients hospitalized at Reuth Medical Center receive comprehensive medical, physical and emotional care, tailored to each patient’s condition by a multidisciplinary staff. The aim is to provide patients with optimal quality of life whilst making maximizing their rehabilitation potential. Families are full partners in this process.
When a patient is about to be released, the professional staff formulates a release program, and contacts the relevant Health Fund and other institutions, in order to ensure continuity after hospitalization and adjustment to living in the community. The program includes consultation regarding medical needs, referrals to community services, recommendations about medical aids, modifying the home, etc.
The Center’s medical staff includes specialists in the fields of rehabilitation, geriatrics, neurology, internal medicine, pediatrics and psychiatry. These are supplemented by medical consultants from other fields, certified and practical nurses, supportive personnel and a paramedical staff including physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists, social workers, dieticians, psychologists, therapeutic occupation staff, pharmacists, X-ray technicians, administrative staff and many volunteers.
Facilities, institutes and services include hospital wards, physiotherapy and occupational therapy rooms, a therapeutic pastime center, clinics and institutes, research & evaluation units, X-ray and dialysis units, a therapeutic garden, a rehabilitation training apartment, and an information center providing information about rehabilitation, nursing care and geriatrics.
Teaching and training plays an essential role at the Reuth Medical Center, involving the medical staff and students in various disciplines from several universities. The Center provides a clinical environment for students of all health professions. Day seminars and conferences are held at the center, and staff members also teach at universities and other medical centers. Research is conducted in many areas.
